Looking fondly back at his time on the NBC sitcom, Sinbad, who played Coach Walter Oakes between and , shares how he went from a stand-up comic to an on-camera personality. At this moment, Sinbad makes a big reveal: he first auditioned for the show as the warm-up comic. Despite not knowing what the job entailed, the legendary comedian reveals he decided to go for it anyway. In conversation with his castmates, Sinbad notes how he claimed to have worked as a warm-up comic for a series of shows.
He attended college from to at the University of Denver in Denver, CO, where he lettered for two seasons for the school's basketball team. Sinbad was almost dismissed with a dishonorable discharge for various misbehaviors, including going AWOL. In an attempt to stand out in the entertainment industry, Adkins worked under the professional name Sinbad, which he chose out of admiration for Sinbad the Sailor.
